Lurex Consulting

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about starting and funding your nonprofit, what we do, how quote-first scope works, and how the process works.

The basics
Are you a law firm or an accountant?
No. Lurex Consulting is a document-preparation, writing, and systems-consulting business. We are not a law firm, a CPA firm, or the IRS, and we do not give legal, tax, or financial advice. We prepare your documents and you review, sign, and file them in your own name. For advice specific to your situation, we always recommend a licensed attorney or CPA. See our Disclaimer.
Do you work remotely or in person?
Both. We serve nonprofit founders nationwide remotely, and we offer in-person help in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area.
Who owns the documents you prepare?
You do. On delivery and payment, every document and system we build is yours to keep.
Starting your 501(c)(3)
Can you promise my 501(c)(3) gets approved?
No honest provider can, the IRS makes that decision. What we do promise is our turnaround and the accuracy of the documents we prepare: if we make an error, we fix it free. We reduce the risk of a follow-up with a pre-submission red-flag review, but approval is always the IRS’s call.
How much does it cost to file with you?
Our 501(c)(3) Filing starts at $550 for the 1023-EZ (plus the $275 IRS fee) and $1,395 for the Long-Form 1023 (plus the $600 IRS fee). We show the IRS fees in full so there are no surprises. See the 501(c)(3) Filing page for all four options.
How long does it take?
You get your complete draft package within five business days of a completed intake unless client delays or a scope change require a different timeline.
Do I need an EIN first?
Yes, an EIN is required before we can start. It is free directly from the IRS, and our $147 State Setup & EIN Walkthrough guides you through getting it (that fee credits toward your filing).
What is the difference between the 1023-EZ and the Long Form?
The 1023-EZ is a shorter application for smaller organizations (generally under $50,000/year in receipts, under $250,000 in assets, formed within the last 27 months, and not a church, school, or hospital). Everyone else files the Long-Form 1023. We give you an honest eligibility read so you file on the right one.
Do you file it for me?
We prepare your complete package, and you sign and submit in your own name. On the Portal-Assisted options we complete the entire Pay.gov entry for you, you just review, pay the IRS fee, and click submit.
I already started my application. Can you check it?
Yes. Our 501(c)(3) Application Review starts at $175. We review it against the IRS red-flag checklist and give you a prioritized fix list, and on the Review + Fix tier we revise the documents we flag.
Governance & grants
Can you do our bylaws and board documents?
Yes. Our Bylaws & Governance packages are Essentials (4 documents, starting at $399) or Complete (13 documents, starting at $649), personalized and ready for board and attorney review in 3-5 business days.
Do you help find and write grants?
Yes. We offer Grant Research (tailored funder shortlists starting at $150), Grant Writing (short foundation proposals starting at $1,200), and Grant Proposal Review (reviews starting at $175). We charge flat fees only, never a percentage of, or contingent on, any award, and we make no promise of funding.
Working together
Do you offer refunds?
We stand behind our turnaround and the accuracy of our work. Because we begin work right away and you own what we produce, refunds are limited, deposits are non-refundable once work begins, and the fee is non-refundable after you approve and receive your final deliverable. Full details on our Refund Policy.
How do we get started?
Reach out through our Request a quote and tell us what you are working on. We reply within one business day with the next step, usually a short intake, not a stack of forms.
